Kristina Lynch

Kristina Lynch is figurative artist currently based in Perth, having relocated to Australia in 2017. Kristina was raised on the border between Canada and the United States of America, with a family separated between the two. Kristina’s oil paintings explore my transient upbringing, and subsequent relocation in search of belonging and family.

Kristina’s current practice is founded on the need to understand my place through human connection, and how my experiences of relocation have impacted that connection and sense of self, both negatively and positively.

Presently, Kristina reflects on moments in the past and present where this sense of self has been impacted by the aforementioned transience; concepts of loneliness and isolation, loss of relationships, loss of independence, and the difficulty of building new relationships in adulthood.

Kristina’s work is inspired by and reflects a dream state; her experience wherein the cities of Toronto and Perth are now blended into a new place, both familiar and foreign. Feelings of disconnection and being chewed up by the challenges of living in a metropolis are referenced in her work – simultaneously, the need to take a leap of faith and land elsewhere to find belonging, connection and sense of place and self are also reflected.
